I’ve ended up in a situation where I might need to ‘merge’ two separate self-hosted blogs into one, and have a few questions that I can’t find the answers to in order to plan things out properly.
1) The destination blog is using Jetpack’s “Subscribe for updates” widget, which allows users to sign up for updates when new posts are published. In testing imports, I’ve found that subscribers have received emails when posts from another blog are imported. Will disabling Subscriptions (or disabling Jetpack as a whole) prevent this?
2) Assuming that disabling Subscriptions or Jetpack will not send updates at all for the blog any more while performing an import – will updates be sent after re-enabling? I’d prefer if this was not the case, and without knowing in detail how Jetpack handles notifications like this it’s not very clear (I’ve read the as much of the plugin source code as I can – it’s still not clear!)
3) I’ve noticed many thousands of WordPress users on the Jetpack-enabled blog, all with the Subscriber role, which I’m pretty certain haven’t been manually created. Is this something done by Jetpack? Bearing in mind that the blog has been operating for about a decade. Can I delete these users without losing subscribers? Am I just barking up the wrong tree entirely?
Thanks if anyone is able to help out. I realise this isn’t really a normal situation!
