That's weird indeed. Does it happen in other galleries as well? If the problem is specific to that particular gallery, could you try to reupload this image, and let me know if it helps?

Yes it happens in all square tiles galleries when it chooses one large image as the top. I've tried going in and dragging and dropping different images in that spot in they all shrink up like that.

I had a look at the theme, and it seems to be using wp_get_attachment_image_src() to get the image, and then resize It. Unfortunately, that won't work well with Photon, unless you make a few changes....
